Person to Person Psychotherapy & Counseling Services

What’s the difference between psychotherapy, therapy, and counseling?

These words are often used to mean the same thing, and they all involve talking with a trained professional to support your mental health. Counseling usually helps with short-term problems or specific issues. Psychotherapy often goes deeper, looking at patterns, emotions, and struggles that have been around for a long time. Therapy is a general word that can mean either one. At Person to Person Psychotherapy, we use both approaches, depending on what works best for you.

How long is a typical therapy session?

A standard therapy session is 45 minutes long. This length is designed to give us enough time to explore important thoughts and feelings without becoming overwhelming. It also allows Amanda to reflect on the session, prepare for the next one, and maintain focus and presence throughout the day. These 45-minute sessions help create a consistent rhythm for meaningful, ongoing work.

Is Person to Person Psychotherapy and Counseling in-network with Insurance plans?

No, Person to Person Psychotherapy and Counseling is not in-network with insurance plans. When therapy is run through insurance, sessions are often limited by what's considered "medically necessary," which can push the work to be fast, surface-level, or focused on just checking boxes. Self-pay therapy might feel like a luxury, but it gives you more freedom to focus on what really matters to you. Many people find that this kind of therapy helps them make real, lasting changes. If you're worried about cost, we can talk about ways to use your out-of-network benefits or explore other options.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don’t have to be in a crisis to start therapy. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, lonely, or just wondering why you feel the way you do, therapy can help. It’s a space to learn more about yourself, understand your emotions, and figure out what’s getting in the way. Many people come to therapy to grow, feel more like themselves, and make sense of their lives.

What happens in a typical therapy session?

Each therapy session is a private and safe space where you can talk openly without feeling judged. You can share whatever’s on your mind—your thoughts, feelings, relationships, past experiences, or things that are stressing you out right now. There’s no pressure to say anything a certain way or talk about things before you’re ready. We go at your pace and focus on what feels most important to you. There’s no script—our work unfolds at your pace.

Does Person to Person Psychotherapy offer therapy for children or minors?

No, we do not offer therapy for children or minors at this time. Person to Person Psychotherapy focuses on working with adults and older teens who are ready to explore their thoughts, emotions, and life experiences in a deeper way.

In what states does Person to Person Psychotherapy and Counseling provide care?

We provide therapy to residents of New Jersey and New York. To work together, you must be physically located in one of these states at the time of your session.

What is the billing process?

Person to Person Psychotherapy is a self-pay practice. This means you’ll be responsible for paying for each session directly. You’ll be asked to put a credit card on file when you begin therapy, and your card will be charged the day of your appointment. This keeps the process simple and allows us to focus our time on the work we’re doing together—not paperwork or insurance billing.

Do you offer virtual therapy sessions?

Yes, I offer therapy sessions virtually. I do not practice out of a traditional office space—instead, I provide virtual sessions year-round and offer walk-and-talk therapy during the spring and fall seasons.

How do virtual sessions work?

Virtual sessions are held using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform that doesn’t require you to download any software. Before your appointment, you’ll receive a link to join my virtual waiting room, making it easy and safe to connect from wherever you are.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Without this notice, a cancellation fee equal to the full cost of the session will be charged. This policy helps keep the schedule fair and allows time to offer the spot to someone else.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

I do not offer regular in-person sessions out of a traditional office space. Therapy is provided virtually year-round, with the option of walk-and-talk sessions during the spring and fall seasons. This approach allows for flexible, accessible care without the need for a traditional office space.
